Helmets & Headphones

Put Things Right are committed to supporting existing campaigns that are calling for the wearing of cycle helmets to be made a legal requirement.

As well as supporting these existing causes, the group are committed to promoting the wearing of helmets in our community through our schools education programme and at events that we run.

Although, the details of Harrison's accident are not definitely known; being such a music lover, there is every possibility that he was wearing headphones at the time he was hit.

As a group, PTR recognises that cyclists wearing headphones are putting themselves at risk but unlike wearing a helmet, they may not actually realise it.

So, at the same time as promoting helmet safety, the group will be aiming to highlight the risks of cycling with earphones in.

FACT: In three out of four bike crashes, bikers usually get some sort of injury to their head.

FACT: According to the Children's Safety Network, more than three times as many children ages 5 to 20 were involved in non-fatal bicycle accidents than adults. Children under 15 accounted for 53 percent of all bicycle injuries treated in emergency rooms. Many bicycle-related head injuries would be prevented by wearing a helmet. The Bicycle Safety Helmet Institute estimates that between 45 and 88 percent of all bicycle-related brain injuries would be prevented with the use of a helmet. - Livestrong.com
